The Process - 2cv Rebuild utilising your Existing Bodyshell
Quality end result with savings on parts costs.
Stage 1.
The first stage of the 2cv rebuild is to totally strip down the car. The 2cv is very carefully dismantled right down to the last nuts and bolts.
Stage 2.
We start by welding in all the new panels that are necessary to get the body shell to first class condition.
We weld in new floors, sills, lower bulkhead, full windscreen panel (Original Citroen), boot floor, rear light panel (Original Citroen), inner rear wings and more if needed.
Once all the welding is done we have the body shell sand blasted to remove all the paint and expose any rust we could of missed.
It is most important to have the body sand blasted after we have don all the welding. As when you weld it thin the metal slightly and the Area turn blue. If it is to thin that is the first place it will go rusty.
So by sand blasting it after we weld the body it will put pinholes in the metal if it is to thin and it will bring it to our attention.
We almost always fit a new panels set as the old panels are not worth repairing (there are exceptions) as it is usually impossible to remove all of the rust from the old panel.
Stage 3.
The rebuilt body shell is now treated and finished as follows:
- The 2cv body shell is turned over and a good quality primer is applied to the underside of the 2cv
- We then go on to apply a seam sealer to every seam on the 2cv and then underseal the underside of the 2cv to give it the best possible protection
- Next, the 2cv is taken into our Body Shop where we apply filler to take out any small blemishes. We do not use filler to fill any holes or big dents as this would lead to problems in the future
- Once we are happy, we go on to apply a coat of high quality etch primer, followed by 3 coats of high build primer. The high build primer is then sanded down to give a smooth base for the 3 colour coats. The paint that we use is of a high quality and will not fade over a few years as a lot of the cheaper paints do.
Stage 4.
Whilst all of the above stages are underway, The running gear, engine and chassis gets stripped down and all the metal work is shot blasted and painted.
Stage 5.
We start with the Chassis, the only chassis we fit to our rebuilds is made by Mehari Club Cassis on Original Citroen Tooling and is the only chassis made under licence from Citroen, it also comes with a life time guarantee and is fully approved all over Europe unlike the other chassis made in the UK.
Stage 6.
All of the running gear is overhauled, i.e. wheel bearings, kingpins, shock absorbers, all new brakes (shoes, pads, discs, wheel cylinders, rebuilt front callipers, all new brake pipes), reconditioned steering rack, coil, starter motor, alternator, fuel line, fuel tank sender etc. and a reconditioned gear box is fitted. We can also fit a fully rebuilt engine which is completely rebuilt by Mehari Club Cassis.
Stage 7.
We will then fit the body to the chassis and reassemble the 2cv to your specification. Re-assembling your 2cv will take approximately 150 hours and in total the rebuild will take approximately 480 hours.
Stage 8.
Once we have fully reassembled your 2cv for you, we will have it MOT’d and then test drive it before you collect it. All rebuilt 2cv’s come with a 1 year parts and labour warranty.

Before any work can commence, we spend some time with you discussing your personal requirements and we also give you a tour around our workshops showing you the stage in the process of rebuilding your 2cv. There are not many places now that allows you to have a say in the specification of your car before it is built for you, visit it at any point in its process, have photographs taken of it throughout the stages, choose the colour of your seats, roof, the colour of the 2cv and there are many more options available to you. At the end of all this you will have a beautiful classic 2cv that you can drive on a daily basis.
