Meet the 2cEv, Our Electric 2CV

Our electric Citroën 2CV keeps the soul of the original with a quiet electric heart: around 65 miles of real-world range, charging from a normal household socket, and the only 2CV EV kit homologated for use in Europe.

We're pleased to introduce the 2cEv, our electric Citroën 2CV. It would have been easy just to fit an electric motor to a 2CV, but without careful thought that can destroy what makes the car special. Over many years we've worked to keep the 2CV's DNA and spirit while replacing its petrol engine with an electric heart, tuned for more torque and a relaxed drive but sympathetic to the original 602cc performance.

"It's the engine noise that makes the 2CV," we hear you say. Drive the 2cEv and you soon realise the 602cc engine isn't the only thing that gives a 2CV its soul.

Simple to drive

Unplug, take the driver's seat and turn the key. After a few seconds' automatic systems check you're ready to go: select 3rd gear and pull away, with no need for the clutch. We recommend leaving it in 3rd and just using the brake when you want to stop.

Range, charging and specification

  • Range: around 65 miles (105 km) in the real world. Driving normally from our workshop to the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu and part of the way back, we covered 65.86 miles.
  • Charging: plugs into a standard 13 amp, 3-pin socket. From 10% to 90% takes about 2.5 hours on the 3 kW charger.
  • Battery: 10 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4), guaranteed to keep at least 80% of its capacity after 2,500 charge cycles, with a 3-year battery guarantee.
  • Motor: 15 kW with 120 Nm peak torque and a top speed of 60 mph.
  • Weight: just 30 kg heavier than the original 2CV.

Fully homologated in Europe

Our 2cEv kit is the only 2CV kit homologated for use in Europe, and we believe it's the only fully homologated electric vehicle conversion available in the UK. Homologation proves the kit has been fully tested: the weight distribution is correct and safe, and the battery has the right safety features and is fitted properly.

A classic for every season

Most classics hibernate in the garage over winter, but you can use a 2cEv all year round. If you do lay it up, charge it to around 85–90% first: about 90% of that charge will still be there after six months. Come spring, check the tyres, lights and screen wash and off you go. No oil checks, flat 12 volt battery or stale petrol to worry about.

If you enjoy working on a classic, great. If you just want to enjoy the drive, the 2cEv is the way to go. Find out more, including pricing and cars for sale, at 2cev.co.uk, or call us on 01985 841327.
